Flagship Public Policy Conference, PRAXIS 2026
The Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia organised its flagship public policy conference, PRAXIS 2026, on 18 August 2026 at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur, under the theme “Reimagining Visions of Progress.” The conference brought together policymakers, researchers, private-sector representatives, civil society and other stakeholders to exchange views on Malaysia’s future development and explore broader visions of progress centred on wellbeing, inclusion, resilience and sustainability.
The conference featured distinguished speakers, including Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah, Executive Chairman of ISIS Malaysia, who delivered the welcoming remarks and moderated a fireside chat; Katherine Trebeck, Economic Change Lead at The Next Economy and Strategic Advisor to the Centre for Policy Development, who delivered the expert keynote; and Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister of Law and Institutional Reform, who delivered an impactful closing keynote address, sharing a vision of reform that extends beyond the passage of laws.
Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President of UNI-MLC, was honoured to participate as a panellist in Session : “Future of Work and Time.” The session focused on how the future of work and livelihoods in Malaysia can be shaped around security, adequate income, workers’ voice, better working time, social protection and quality of life as Malaysia progresses towards a post-high-income future. On behalf of UNI-MLC, he extended sincere appreciation to ISIS Malaysia, particularly Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah, Executive Chairman of ISIS Malaysia; Mr Calvin Cheng, Director (Economics, Trade and Regional Integration); and the entire organising team for organising such a meaningful and significant conference. PRAXIS 2026 provided an important platform for constructive dialogue and the exchange of ideas on the future of Malaysia, workers, society and sustainable development.
During the panel discussion, Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal highlighted the importance of decent work, fair wages, safe workplaces, strong social protection and workers’ voice. He also emphasised the philosophy of Smart Partnership among the Government, employers and trade unions, stronger collective bargaining, continuous upskilling and reskilling, better work-life balance, and fair protection for gig, platform, migrant and other workers in the changing world of work.
UNI-MLC believes that such inclusive sharing and constructive dialogue can contribute significantly to building a stronger and more inclusive Malaysia that places the interests and well-being of workers at the centre of national progress, while advancing decent work, workers’ rights, social dialogue, inclusive social protection, and a fair and sustainable future of work for all.
