Dialogue Session on Organising at XL Smart-Axiata

 

A Dialogue Session on Organising at XL Smart was held on 15 October 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bringing together trade union leaders and representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, UNI Global Union and UNI Apro.

The meeting provided an important platform to exchange views on recent developments at XL Smart following the merger, discuss workplace and industrial relations challenges, and identify future organising priorities and opportunities for cooperation.

The session began with opening remarks by Bro. Shinichi Kitano, President of UNI Apro ICTS, followed by a presentation from Bro. Ahmad Henry Machsuni, President of XL Smart Union, on the current situation and challenges facing the union.

The meeting was also attended by Bro. Abdul Rachman, General Secretary of XL Smart Union; Bro. Andi Siswanto, President of Indosat Union and UNI Apro ICTS Committee Member; Bro. Yudianto Suparji Warsorejo, General Secretary of Indosat Union; Sis. Dwi Handayani Busono, ASPEK Representative and UNI ICTS Global Union Committee Member; Bro. Benjamin Parton, Head of UNI ICTS; and Sis. Fumiko Kimura, Director of UNI Apro ICTS.

On behalf of UNI-MLC, Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President of UNI-MLC, attended the meeting. He expressed his sincere appreciation and thanks to all trade union leaders, representatives and activists for their participation and valuable contributions. He also appreciated the opportunity provided by this significant platform to address recent developments, exchange experiences and discuss the challenges of organising at XL Smart Union. He emphasised the importance of continued cooperation, solidarity and constructive engagement among trade unions to strengthen workers' representation and support the future development of XL Smart Union.

In conclusion, the dialogue served as a valuable platform for strengthening mutual understanding, promoting solidarity and identifying future areas of cooperation. It reaffirmed the shared commitment of participating unions and UNI affiliates to supporting workers' rights, improving industrial relations and strengthening trade union organising in the ICTS sector.
