UNI Post & Logistics World Conference

This year the UNI Post and Logistics World Conference was held in Dublin on 13-14 October 2016. Over
250 post and logistics world leaders were engaged in a passionate
debate about the future of postal services in a digital world.
The
Conference congratulated Dave Ward, General Secretary of the
UK's Communication Worker's Union who was elected as World President of
the UNI Post and Logistics sector.
The
unions gathered represent 5 million post workers world wide who are
responsible for delivery of over 650 billion letters and almost 7
billion parcels from 663,000 post offices around the world.
“We
are breaking through for our members,” said Stephen DeMatteo, Head of
UNI Post and Logistics. “We are more prepared than ever to deliver the
future for postal workers. We will deliver on quality jobs. We will
defend the principles of universal services and public ownership, tackle
bogus self-employment and protect against liberalisation and
privatisation.”
From
the Asia-Pacific region, Bro. Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President of
UNI-MLC delivered a presentation on the 'organising strategy for one of
the Post & Logistics Company in Malaysia, DHL'.
Bro.
Kun Wardana, Director of UNI Apro & ICTS, presented a paper on
organising DHL Indonesia while Bro. Mohd Effendy, General Secretary of
the Postal Union (UPCW) in Malaysia presented his paper on organising
Post Malaysia.
The
conference took place for two days with the agenda that covers the
future world of work, quality jobs, impact of trade agreements and the
adoption of future priorities.
