7th National Congress of ASPEK Indonesia, 6-7 July 2019, Jakarta, Indonesia
The 7th ASPEK Indonesia National
Congress has been successfully held on 6-7 June 2019 in Jakarta, Indonesia. With
the “Be a Smart and Strong Union in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution” theme, the
four-year congress was attended by hundreds of union leaders and ASPEK
Affiliates across sectors.
The congress was started with a panel
discussion on labour movement in Industry 4.0 era.The key representatives from
Ministry of Manpower, Employer Association, Academia, Trade Union Confederation
and Global Union Federation were invited as the panel speakers to share their
experiences, views and suggestions on what should union leaders prepare to
welcome the impact of 4th Industrial Revolution.
The speakers all agree that the process of
this phenomenon cannot be stopped. It is therefore important for trade unions
to change their mindset and approach to work in partnership with the social
partners. In line with this argument, Datuk Shafie encouraged the participants
to be not afraid of the upcoming Industry 4.0 Challenges. He is confident that
Indonesian trade unions and workers will overcome these challenges as long as
they are ready and prepare for it.
The main agenda of this congress is to
elect the next President of ASPEK Indonesia. The ASPEK Affiliates have reached a
consensus to give the mandate to Sister Mirah Sumirat. She will be the
President of ASPEK Indonesia for the second term.
UNI MLC would like to congratulate Sister
Mirah for being re-elected as the President of ASPEK Indonesia. We are
delighted to hear this good news. We are confident that Sister Mirah will
continue her positive influence and good works for ASPEK Indonesia and for
labour movement in Indonesia.
