Telenor unions form global alliance, express solidarity with Bangladesh
Unions
representing workers in Telenor gathered in Budapest, Hungary on 6-7
September to form the Telenor Global Union Alliance. All European
countries in which Telenor operates were represented in the meeting,
which also welcomed delegates from Bangladesh, Malaysia, and India. The
unions formed the global alliance in order to better represent workers’
interests in the company, share information and best practices, provide
mutual support and solidarity, organize more Telenor workers into
unions, and encourage productive industrial relations throughout the
group.
The
newly formed alliance also expressed its deep concern with the
situation in Bangladesh, where the Grameenphone Employees Union (GPEU)
has been fighting for recognition since 2012, and provided its full
support to the GPEU.
