            Members of the panel

Good morning and a warm welcome to the DiGi Management team, members of the union working committee and activist, and members participating in the  “Smart Partnership Workshop”.

It is a great honour for me to have been given the opportunity to declare open this workshop. I hope it will help to inspire and also share the Vision and Mission of DiGi Telecommunications Sdn. Bhd.

I would like to sincerely thank Mr. Haroon Bhatti, the Chief Human Resource Officer and the management team from DiGi Telecommunications Sdn. Bhd., for your consent in having the joint session to promote best practices in Industrial Relations and Smart Partnership in DiGi Malaysia.

As I have always mentioned, UNI-MLC and DiGi Union are fully committed in promoting “Smart Partnership” at all levels.

The relationship between the union and the management can be more proactive as mentioned in the collective agreement:

o   Recognition of company
Whereby the Union recognizes the rights of the company to operate and manage its business in all respects

o   Recognition of the Union
Whereby the company recognizes the union as the sole negotiating body in respect of and on behalf of all employees

o   Transparency
o   Fair Play
o   Trust
o   Respect and Care
o   Decent work
o   Productivity
o   Safety and health
o   Upgraded skills

o   Being able to adapt to changes

Shared Vision:
The union and the management collaborate and cooperate with each other in providing complete solutions and the best services for DiGi customers in order to fulfill its promise to the 11 million customers in Malaysia, also enhancing the company and staff performance at the same time. It is vital that the union and the management share this responsibility and view it as a common goal and vision to develop the company to a higher level and reap the benefits.

Present situation in DiGi Telecoms:
Social dialogues between the management team, the union and UNI-MLC have established a strong base for the ongoing success of the company through frequent dialogues with the union and UNI-MLC by the management. The best practices in Industrial Relations between the Management and Union of DiGi Telecoms can be a benchmark for other MNCs.

Future Challenges:
Any relationship, if not nurtured and guarded continuously, will not flourish.
Therefore the company and the union should always consult each other when implementing and promoting new products and services to the public, and any other matter that affects the well being of workers and company performance.
UNI-MLC will assist in every way possible to continue this partnership.
With those remarks I am happy to declare the DiGi – DGEU – UNI-MLC workshop on “Smart Partnership” officially open.

Thank you.
