On 30th June 2018, the National Union of Bank Employees celebrated 60 years of holding on to resilient trade unionism and uplifting lives of workers and their families in the Malaysian banking and financial industry. More than 1,000 NUBE leaders was present at this anniversary celebration.

The Guest of Honor during the celebration was Y.B. M. Kula Segaran, Minister of Human Resources Malaysia, the President of NUBE, Bro. Michael Tan and NUBE General Secretary, Bro. J Solomon. Also present was Y.Bhg Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President of UNI MLC.

The highlight of the celebration was the cake cutting ceremony to celebrate 60 Years of NUBE by  Y.B. M. Kula Segaran, Minister of Human Resources Malaysia and accompanied by the President, General Secretary, Executive Committee of NUBE and honorable Guests.

around the world meeting at the
​ ACC Centre in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

​The theme of the Conference was "MAKING IT HAPPEN" and 
​featured ​
speakers such as:
  • Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party
  • Reverend John W. Barber II, President and Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach
  • Dilma Rousseff, Former President of Brazil
  • Frances O'Grady, General Secretary of the TU

2018 is a year of milestones – 150 years since the founding of the British TUC, 100 years since suffrage in the UK and the birth of Nelson Mandela, 10 years on from Liverpool winning European Capital of Culture, and 70 years since the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 2018 also marks the year that UNI comes of age – 18 years from its founding in 2000, UNI has grown in to a global organisation with an international remit and world.
“Together we have dared to dream and turned UNI into an organisation that inspires others”, said UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings. “18 years later, we have grown in to a powerhouse in the global union movement, but our values remain the same – give workers a seat at the table, change the rules of the game, break through and make it happen.”

building a Congress that motivates, moves and demonstrates our determination to grow 
​our​
unions and break through for workers. 

​85 trade union leaders from UNI Malaysia participated at the UNI World Congress at Liverpool.

​UNI MLC congratulates the newly elected President of UNI Global Union, Bro. Ruben Cortina, an Argentina trade union stalwart​, Sis. Christy Hoffman, newly elected General Secretary and Sis. Alke Boessigner, newly elected Deputy General Secretary of UNI Global Union.

During the Congress, Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President of UNI MLC was elected as a titular member of the UNI World Executive Board and Bro. Mohd Effendy bin Abdul Ghani, General Secretary of UPCW - UNI MLC was elected as a 1st substitute and Bro Law Kiat Min from Sarawak Banking Employees Union was elected as a 2nd substitute.

Sis. Margaret Chin and Sis. Catherine Jikunan from SBEU was elected as a 2nd substitute in the UNI World Women Committee.

Solidarity Visit from Federation of Seven and I Workers Union Japan to UNI MLC and Buka Puasa

On 6th June 2018, the Federation of Seven and I Workers Union Japan had a solidarity visit to UNI MLC and Buka Puasa (Iftar) at Federal​ Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

UNI MLC was represented by Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President and Datuk Shafie presented a short briefing on the present political, economical and employment situation in Malaysia. Sis. Alice Chang, Director of UNI Apro Commerce represented UNI Apro and was also present at the meeting.

A total of 13 Union leaders had an exchange program with UNI MLC and we shared information on some common issues.

The delegation was headed by Bro. Jun Kitayama and he also expressed some of his remarks as follows.

"We are all trade union officers of companies under Seven and I Holdings, which is a Japanese diversified retail group engaged mainly in Japan in distribution and services. We joined the overseas study tour to Malaysia organised by our umbrella organisation , Seven and I Group Trade Union Federation."

"The objective of this study tour is to broaden our views through hands on learning on distribution business overseas, political and cultural situations. We hope this knowledge and experience are useful and beneficial in our future union activities when we respond to changing environment in Japan and also to help our members to have job satisfaction and motivation in life.

"We are looking forward to this meeting to exchange our views and are really moved and delighted to be invited for buka puasa dinner. We really hope we will have a memorable and meaningful time together".
