JHEKS & KPPDPPKS Join Forces for Seminar on Building Second-Level Union Leadership
The Seminar on Building Second-Level Union Leadership, jointly organized by JHEKS and the Union of Workers in Private Medical and Health Services (KPPDPPKS), was effectively held from 20th to 22nd September 2025 at Hotel Capitol, Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.

The 3-day seminar covered critical topics, including labour law amendments, responsibilities of union representatives, industrial harmony, skills in communication and public speaking, handling member grievances, and strategies for sustainable trade union leadership.
The seminar concluded with the Closing Speech by Datuk Mohammed Shafie BP Mammal, President of UNI–Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI–MLC). He extended his sincere gratitude to the organisers, JHEKS and KPPDPPKS, for their efforts, and warmly thanked all participants for their active involvement in making the seminar both productive and successful.
In his address, Datuk Shafie highlighted the importance of empowering second-level union leadership to ensure the continuity and sustainability of trade union movements. He also informed all participants that during the First Founding Conference of the UNI APRO Care Sector, held from 28-29 August 2025 in Kathmandu, Nepal, Bro. Krishnan Maruthamuthu - General Secretary of the Private Medical and Health Services Employees Union, has been elected as the Titular Member/Substitute Member for the UNI APRO Care Committee. He explained that effective communication, strong collective bargaining, and unity are the cornerstones for safeguarding workers’ rights in the ever-changing industrial landscape.
The seminar ended on a high note, strengthening solidarity among union leaders and reaffirming the commitment to protect and uplift workers across Malaysia.
