UNI - MLC MAYDAY CELEBRATION 
01.05.2014 


More than 350 trade union leaders from various sectors turned up for the Mayday Celebration organized by UNI-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) at the Transport Workers Union Building in Petaling Jaya. The celebration was in conjunction with the launching of UNI-Malaysia Labour Centre and logo which was inaugurated by Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Haji Zainal Rampak, General Secretary of the Transport Workers Union (TWU).

The Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) has also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, urging him to consider having its representatives sit in 11 agencies under Human Resources and other ministries.
The memorandum was handed to Tan Sri Zainal Rampak, who was also the former Malaysian Trades Union Congress president during the Labour Day celebration.

Zainal is expected to submit the memorandum to Najib on Monday.

UNI-MLC is seeking representation in the Social Security Organisation, Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Bhd, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Skills Development Fund Corporation, Employees Provident Fund, National Labour Advisory Council, Occupational Safety and Health Council, Wages Council, Industrial Relations Department, Department of Trade Union Affairs and Industrial Court.

UNI-MLC president Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal said they wanted their representatives to establish harmonious industrial relations between the employers, government and workers' union for economic growth.
"We also want to ensure workers' welfare," he said, adding that the smart partnership and social dialogue between the government and employers is important because it could further enhance industrial relations.
He said since its establishment 13 years ago, UNI-MLC has grown to a membership of 300,000 from 65 union groups.

During the event, UNI-MLC presented awards to 9 trade union leaders namely : Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Haji Zainal Rampak, Former President of MTUC, Mr. K. Duraiappah K.M.N,, Former President of NUTE, Yg Bhg Datuk Omar Osman, Former President of CUEPACS, Mr. S. Rajasegaram, Former President of AMESU Mr. G. Rajasegaran, Former General Secretary of MTUC,  Mr. Robert Vijendran Henry, President of Genting Union, Mr. Suffian Unoss, President of UPUS, Mr. A. Navamukundan, National Executive Secretary NUPW and Mr. R.
